Figures and Butterflies Mixed Media Cards

It's been quite a busy time for me the last few months. I fell rather sick early March and was pretty much useless around that time. And I had a month-long trip in the US at the end of March. But I'm back now with a bunch of mixed media cards that I'm going to send to several folks I met in Portland.

I participated in a mail art exchange and the theme was "figures". I immediately thought of numbers when I saw it because I'm quite a literal person. As I was working on the cards, I thought of checking out the Simon Says Stamp challenges, and lo and behold, the Monday Challenge was themed "We've Got Your Number", where you just had to add a number anywhere on your project. What a coincidence!

As you can see, I have many numbers all over the background. The butterfly was lightly inked with Distress Inks and fussy cut from an old Kaisercraft stamp.

I created the background on a white 12x12 cardstock and simply tore scraps out of scrap paper, threw on a bunch of Distress Paints and Stains, added Texture Paste and sprays, stamped a few "number" related images here and there. I used a stitched rectangle die to cut it out.

I made 12 of these mini cards (I think it's around a 4-bar card size) and have another 3 cards to make as I have 15 recipients to send to. Fun!

Hello with Butterflies Handmade Card

Here's another card for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge with the theme "Use More than One Die or Punch".

This card is made up of various die cut elements and the only thing that's not a die cut is the watercolor background and vellum strip. I contemplated adding more gold on the card but didn't want an overly shimmery / bling type card so I kept it simple.

Traveler's Notebook Process - Weekly Insert

Surprise, surprise! I'm back with another traveler's notebook process video and this time in my weekly insert. I have been thinking of uploading two to three videos per week because I'd like to cover other crafty things I enjoy too, namely cardmaking and scrapbooking.

Traveler's Notebook Mixed Media Layout - Lego Batman

The husband and I watched Lego Batman around the time it was released in Malaysia and of course, I had to do a layout in my traveler's notebook. The movie was awesome! It had so many funny jokes and pop culture references that my head couldn't keep up after a while. But still a fun watch!



On a side note, my insert is getting really, really chunky and I haven't reached the middle yet. It's a little worrying. I'm prepared to remove the staples in the center spine if the need arises.

Traveler's Notebook Flip Through and Updated Setup

It's been absolutely ages since I last uploaded a video but I wanted to film my latest traveler's notebook setup. I'm using it as a creative journal and am starting to enjoy it more. I never used it regularly before because I was trying to set it up as a planner but it didn't work out for me.
As a journal though, I'm free to stick all sorts of things inside. Even doing mixed media when I feel like it.

Winter Birthday Card

I wanted to use the deer head diecut from the Maggie Holmes Open Book set again and seeing that Simon Says Stamp has a new Wednesday Challenge called "Winter Birthday", well antlers and snow seems to come to mind. Well, at least to my mind.

This is a relatively simple card with the birthday greeting stamped in Encore Ultimate Metallic Gold ink using Hero Arts Many Everyday Messages stamp set. The gold ink is rather subtle and doesn't really show up on screen. I added a punched out glitter gold snowflake for that slightly more wintery element.

Square Masculine Birthday Card

So Simon Says Stamp has a new Monday Challenge and that is Be Square. I just received the WRMK Next Level geometric embossing folders today and wanted to try them out along with the deer head from Maggie Holmes Open Book die set, which I cut from a wood patterned paper.

The "birthday" word was cut using Papertrey Ink's die and the music notes background is actually a thin origami paper from Daiso. Those Next Level embossing folders are amazing! I can't wait to experiment on glitter paper and perhaps get more designs soon.

This is a 4" square card using a plain white cardstock base.
